In the Balkans, we often look "outward," toward the bigger stages and more prestigious galleries, while around us a living cultural scene already exists, with real opportunities for meeting and exchange. „Borders / Σύνορα“ brings together two artistic communities that are geographically close, yet still not familiar with one another.
The first large-scale international project by The Artist At Play brings together ten artists from Greece and ten from Bulgaria in a two-way exchange: Greek artists present their work in Sofia, while Bulgarian artists present theirs in Thessaloniki. The current exhibition takes place across two galleries, and visitors travel the distance between them. This movement is more than a formality: it turns the border from a subject into an action, something to be crossed.
The works in the exhibition approach the topic through the perspective of memory, identity, nature and transience. Threads, networks, roots, bridges and imprints emerge among them as images of connections that exist independently of the geographical lines that divide them.
