In his solo exhibition "Loophole: Chapter One," Petar Pondev presents a tufting series resulting from two years of technical research and experimentation. Through this body of work, Pondev introduces us to textile art, using precise knotting as both a metaphor and a subtle reminder to comprehend and confront what does or does not belong among us.
With an unbearable softness and refinement, the exhibition guides us through abstract forms to depictions of cyborgs and a nuclear explosion seen through the innocent eyes of children. Pondev intricately weaves a labyrinth onto the gallery walls, a maze that imposes no burden but instead introduces a new dimension through its interplay of colors, shapes, and fluidity.
Chronologically, the series traces the progression of artificial intelligence and super-futuristic elements within the framework of traditional manual labor. The 'tufting' technique becomes an opportunity for meditation and contemplation, allowing the artist to forestall the inevitable, though not entirely.
Petar Pondev's vividly colored images bring forth their unique architecture and logic into the contemporary world, where inevitability becomes an experiential reality, even as we attempt to resist its unfolding.
