"shameless" is an exploration of the freedom to choose motherhood and partnership as a personal choice, and not out of obligation. This exhibition is a personal challenge, diverting the artist from her previous work. Here, she presents not portraits but metaphorical representations of some of the challenges faced by modern women. The same challenges that Bulgarian women faced a hundred years ago.
"At a time when societal pressures continue to dictate a woman's worth based on traditional roles, shameless aims to disrupt the status quo," says Kalina Hristova. "Through the messages in the exhibition, I aim to highlight the strength and resilience of women who are part of a world where choices are often met with judgment. It is imperative that we acknowledge the struggles that still continue, even in the most developed societies."
One focal point sheds light on the ongoing battle for reproductive rights. Despite incredible medical advances, women's apparent lack of choice remains an urgent issue. Kalina Hristova's topic serves as an alarming reminder that freedom should encompass every aspect of a woman's life, including her decisions about her own body and future.
