UNCERTAIN SPACES

Gergana Tabakova & Radoil Serafimov

In the exhibition Uncertain Spaces, Gergana Tabakova and Radoil Serafimov inhabit the border zone between the visible and the invisible — that in-between point where, as Maurice Merleau-Ponty writes, “perception is not an act but a relation — an encounter between the world and the body, in which both are transformed.” It is precisely this tension between subjective sensation and objective materiality, between hesitation and certainty, that shapes the core of their dialogue.

In Gergana Tabakova’s work, the image is never complete. Her canvases are memories that resist order, fragments of vegetation dissolving into mist, traces of life suspended in a state of transition. Radoil Serafimov, on the other hand, constructs spaces of apparent clarity and order, where geometry and color act as barriers. His fences, lines, and diagonals create an illusion of stability — yet it is precisely within that stability that unease begins to emerge.

Uncertain Spaces is an exhibition about the tension between clarity and fog, about the boundaries we ourselves construct, about our need to see and our fear of what might be revealed. It is about existence as a constant passage between the clear and the obscured, between protection and openness, between the desire for control and the fear of disintegration. Uncertainty becomes a mode of being — the only certainty in a world that is in perpetual flux.
